The Indonesian national dish is fried rice with more seasoning: sweet soy sauce, chilli, shallot. Traditionally with a fried egg on top, here the egg is in the rice.

Ingredients

  • 80 grice, dry weight (cooked the day before)
  • 120 gChicken breast
  • 60 gEgg (1 piece)
  • 60 gCarrot
  • 50 gWhite cabbage
  • 30 gSpring onion
  • 20 gSoy sauce
  • 5 gSugar (1 tsp)
  • 10 gCanola oil (1 tbsp)
  • Shallot, garlic, chilli or sambal

How to make it

  1. Stir the soy sauce with the sugar, that stands in for sweet soy sauce. Chop the chicken, carrot and cabbage.
  2. Get the oil very hot in the wok, fry the shallot, garlic and chilli briefly, add the chicken and fry for three minutes.
  3. Add the carrot and cabbage for two more minutes.
  4. Push everything to the side, egg into the middle, stir it and let it set.
  5. Add the rice and sauce, fry over high heat for three minutes, fold in the spring onion.

One tip

A fried egg on top and cucumber slices alongside, and it is served the way it is in Indonesia.
